How the Races Were Won from 2011 to 2015

I decided to change Tony Stewart's 2006 fall Texas NASCAR Nextel Cup win from off-track to natural. Yes, he did beat Kurt Busch out of the pits and that is what gave him the lead, but he did pass Jamie McMurray on track for the lead later in the race, and generally, I counted wins as natural if a driver who previously led (even if the lead was not originally taken naturally) retook the lead from another driver later in the race, so I had to change this to conform to my usual standard. Having said that, there is still plenty of room for criticism here especially in terms of strategic assists. In certain NASCAR races that have all too many cautions especially, drivers can be on so many different pit strategies that the line between 'natural' and 'strategic assist' can indeed be hard to discern, and some would count on-track passes of a damaged car or bump-and-run passes as natural, which I am not doing. Some might argue passes should not count as natural if they were induced by means that could be artificial (such as restrictor plates or the drag reduction system). Nonetheless, it's clear this is measuring something and I will draw my conclusions from this series sometime in the next month, although it might not be my next column. Also, I erroneously omitted Will Power's line of data from the IndyCar section in the 2006-10 article. He had 9 wins, of which 7 were natural, 1 was off-track, and 1 was a strategic assist in the previous column. These data and the Stewart data (which I have changed here but not in the original column) have been included in these final tallies, which are up to date through the races of March 15, 2015 (including the Cup and F1 races which I haven't even entered onto race-database yet, but I put a higher priority on this research).
